Moorpark Unified is a member of the Ventura County Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Consortium and is committed to providing students with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to be tobacco free.
CATCH My Breath- Grade 6
Catch My Breath is an e-cigarette and JUUL prevention program that provides students with the skills to resist peer pressure and media influences to try e-cigarettes. It is an evidence-based program that was shown to substantially reduce students likelihood of vaping in the year following the programs implementation. Students also show an increased knowledge of the dangers of vaping and choosing a vape-free lifestyle.
Project ALERT- Grades 7 & 8
Project ALERT is a free classroom‐based substance abuse prevention program for 7th and 8th graders that’s proven to reduce the experimental and continued use of drugs. Through a series of comprehensive lessons, Project ALERT motivates students against drug use, cultivates new non-use attitudes and beliefs, and equips teens with the skills and strategies they’ll use to resist drugs.
Stanford Tobacco Prevention- Grade 9
The Stanford Tobacco Prevention Toolkit is a theory-based and evidence-informed educational resource created by educators and researchers aimed at preventing middle and high school students’ use of cigarettes, cigars/cigarillos, chew, hookah, and e-cigarettes. This Toolkit contains a set of modules focused on e-cigarettes and vapes, messages on nicotine addiction, information and resources concerning positive youth development, and school policies that provide information about school tobacco policies and tobacco control efforts.
